Everything you need to write about us

Lazar Family Bakehouse is a Denver-area bakery built around one recipe: Grandma Jeanne's mandel bread, a twice-baked cookie best described as a softer biscotti, with a delicate crunch on the outside and a softer inside. Jeanne packed her suitcase with desserts instead of clothes so she could share them wherever she went, and she baked entirely by feel, in handfuls. Her granddaughter Victoria sat with her, converted those handfuls into real measurements, and wrote the recipe on a sheet of yellow notebook paper that she still has today. Jeanne baked well into her nineties and lived to 102. Victoria now leads the baking alongside her son Jake, the fourth generation, who founded the company. Every bag is hand-formed, hand-sliced, and twice-baked in a South Denver commercial kitchen, and 5% of profits go to food charities.

Style notes

  • Lazar Family Bakehouse (three words, capital B). "LFB" is fine on second reference.
  • MandelBites is one word with a capital B.
  • Mandel bread, two words, lowercase, for the cookie in general.
  • Grandma Jeanne, not Jean. She is Jake's great-grandmother and Victoria's grandmother, which makes Jake the fourth generation.
  • Confetti is the current name of the flavor formerly called Funfetti. Some packaging still shows the older name.
